Prayer room
In response to the Methodist Church's initiative for 2005/6 called "Pray without Ceasing", we have created a place for prayer at Chilwell Road which is available for use whenever the church buildings are open for other activities.
The "Prayer Room" is the Minister's Vestry, sited on the corridor between the Church Office and the Wesley Room. It is a place resourced for quiet, reflection and prayer.
In the room you will find a table with a kneeler facing a cross, for those who find it helpful to pray in that way. There are also comfortable chairs. On another table there are a variety of books of prayers and meditations and Bibles to use. There are also supplies of writing and drawing paper with pens and pencils, for those who wish to write or be creative in their praying.
On the wall there is a map of the world and there is an opportunity for you to indicate on the map those parts of the world for which you have a particular concern or people living abroad for whom you would like us to pray. There is also a section of wall on which you can place your own prayer concerns that you would be happy for others to see and engage in prayer with and for you.
There are pictures the room which may be used as an aid to prayer. There is also a CD player and some appropriate music for those who find music conducive to prayer and reflection. We have also installed some appropriate lighting in the room.
Please feel free to use the Prayer Room whenever you wish and whenever it is free. There is a "spy hole" in the door so that you can check whether or not the room is in use.
In the room you will find a box of stones. Every time you use the room, please take a stone and add it to the cairn we are building through the year, a symbol of our life of prayer together. May you find the Prayer Room to be a real help and blessing in your spiritual journey.
