Janet Patrick (February 2006)

"My father was a local preacher, and from childhood I felt part of the World Church but I wanted to be ‘a doer of the word’ rather than a preacher. I have been greatly influenced by 17 years spent living in poor countries.

My ecumenism came through worshipping with Catholic Franciscans in Pakistan and Anglicans in Malawi. My call to preaching came through seeing the need for women preachers in Blantyre Cathedral, and being drawn more to worship as I grew older. I will try to help congregations towards a sense of the presence of God and with a passion to bring in God’s kingdom on earth. I want both to encourage and to stir people up: the uncomfortable gospel which is ‘Good News to the Poor’ will not let me go.

The LP training course has been one of continuous assessment and has been a struggle over the last three years: it has been hard but most worthwhile. It is such an honour to become one of ‘Mr Wesley’s preachers’."
